Biography
Xu Qiping (b. 1965, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China) is a distinguished artist specializing in modern Chinese painting and sculpture. Known for her dynamic fusion of traditional Chinese ink painting with elements of African primitive and folk art, she has developed a unique visual language characterized by vibrant colors and expressive brushstrokes.
In 1999, Xu embarked on a transformative solo journey to Africa, immersing herself in the raw beauty of tribal cultures, vast deserts, and untouched forests. The experience deeply influenced her artistic style, shifting her focus toward themes of coexistence between nature, humanity, and wildlife. Her works critically reflect on modern industrial civilization while expressing a longing for harmony between the natural world and human life.
In recent years, Xu has been actively involved in cultural exchanges across Africa, bringing Chinese art to diverse communities. She has lectured in multiple countries, mentoring students worldwide, including in Egypt, Belarus, Malta, Tanzania, and Algeria. Xu is also an Art Advisor for World Animal Protection and holds key roles in various cultural and artistic organizations. Her works have been widely exhibited across China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Africa, and are part of numerous institutional and private collections worldwide.
